In this week’s focus scripture, from the gospel according to Matthew, Jesus sends out his first disciples (i.e., followers) as labourers into “the harvest.” By virtue simply of being Christians—being people who dare to believe and trust in Jesus and seek to follow what he would do and what he would have us do—we, too, are anointed and appointed: set apart and made powerful for ministry, selected and sent forth for witness. But who are the ones we’ve been sent out to and among? And why?
