This week, we are pleased to welcome to our pulpit Daniel Martin, Campus Ministry Animator with the First Third Ministry team of the Pacific Mountain Regional Council of The United Church. Daniel is a recent Vancouver School of Theology graduate and a relative newcomer to The United Church, having grown up in more evangelical-leaning traditions in central California. He has significant experience in ministries with and among young adults, youth, and children, and is excited to be helping The United Church in this region re-imagine how we are in ministry with college/university-aged people in this time. In addition to his work with the Regional Council, he is set to begin a position on the staff of St. Andrew's - Wesley United Church in Vancouver in September.
In worship, we will hear from the book of James, another one of the letters ("epistles") we find in the New Testament portion of our Bible. Writing to a general audience of early Christians, likely of previous Jewish background, James' primary concerns in his letter relate to consistency between word and action and the unity of our faith and our "works" as Christians.
