The Epiphany of Our Lord

This weekend, as the secular calendars move us into a New Year, our Christian worship calendar brings us to the festival known as Epiphany (which is actually January 6th, but we'll be observing it this Sunday, January 1st).  The feast of Epiphany -- which means "manifestation" -- concludes the Christmas season with a celebration of God's glory revealed in the person of Jesus Christ.  From Isaiah, we'll hear that glory proclaimed for all nations and peoples.  And like the light of the star in the gospel of Matthew that guided the magi to Jesus, the light of Christ reveals who we are:  children of God claimed, washed, and embraced in living waters of grace.  We are sent out to be beacons of the light of Christ, sharing the good news of God's love to and for all people.
