19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“We’ll never walk on water if we’re not prepared to drown, body and soul need a soaking from time to time.” Thus sings a song beloved by many in The United Church in our region, Gordon Light’s “My Love Colours Outside the Lines”. This coming Sunday, we’ll hear the story from the gospel of Matthew that is behind those lyrics, the story of Jesus coming to his disciples by way of walking on the sea as they rode in a boat in the midst of a storm. The climax of the scene, though, isn’t in Jesus' trek across the water, but rather in what happens when he invites one of his followers to step out and join him.
