“Left Hanging”
This Sunday, we drop into the stories from our Bible’s Old Testament about King David one last time for the summer. In this week’s scene, a long trajectory of conflicted interests and broken relationships comes to a head as a rebellious son of David is killed by David’s own aides. Caught between his role as king and his role as a father, David is reduced to inconsolable tears. Why do we keep telling stories like this as part of our faith tradition? Where is God in such circumstance? And is there any way out of the seemingly unending spirals of brokenness?
