"Being Good News"
It’s “rally day”, “Connection Sunday”, “Celebration Week”, “Kick Off Day”… regardless of what name you prefer, this Sunday marks an exciting step-up in energy and activity here at CUC as our fall program season gets fully underway. Our choir will be back in season, our Children’s Church refreshes this Sunday, and other faith formation activities and smaller group gatherings resume over the coming couple of weeks. Life and vital ministry continue all year long here at Cloverdale United Church—including throughout the summer—but we know that the rhythms of life take any of us here-or-there for any variety of reasons. If you’ve been travelling during the summer or otherwise haven’t made it to worship in a while, this Sunday is a great time to start getting back into the practice!
In worship this week, we’ll make a second of three small visits to the New Testament's letter of James. James is filled with quite a bit of no-nonsense, practical, proverb-like wisdom about living as a Christian and in Christian community, and the conviction that, indeed, faith is something to be lived—enacted, expressed outwardly, practiced through what we do, not just what we hear, think, or feel. Through our faith-rooted action, we become part of God’s good news for others… and in the process, discover the good news anew for ourselves.
