Epiphany Sunday

“Home By Another Way”

This Sunday, we reach the conclusion of the Christmas season with our celebration of Epiphany Sunday. The feast of Epiphany—a word that means “manifestation” or “revealing”—remembers how right from the very beginning of Jesus' life God’s glory in him was revealed in the world, even to other peoples beyond Jesus' own community, as symbolized by the “magi from the East” who followed the star and came to worship him. Leaving their home, those “wise men,” as we often call the magi, embark upon a pilgrimage, seeking the glimpse of the divine in the Christ child, and being warned in a dream, the magi choose a different direction to journey back home. Encountering Christ leaves us forever changed, and as our own journeys continue, we remember we sometimes are led to choose a different way.
