We are pleased to be able to share that we will be soon welcoming Ross Shearer as our new Children & Youth Ministries Leader. A native of Port Coquitlam and life-long United Church-er, Ross comes to us following a year’s service at Mount Seymour United Church in North Vancouver in a children’s ministry leader role quite similar to ours. Equally notably, he has served on the staff of the BC Conference’s / Pacific Mountain Regional Council’s Camp Spirit summer day camp program each year since 2017, in various positions of increasing responsibility and leadership scope. Staff with the Regional Council praise Ross’s gifts as a Godly Play story presenter and speak very highly of his interactions with children, as does Rev. Nancy Talbot from Mount Seymour United. He also pursues part-time studies through Douglas College and currently looks forward to further studies through offerings of the Centre for Christian Studies in Winnipeg, Canada’s leading school for diaconal ministry training in the United and Anglican traditions (don't worry... CCS's programs are carried out in a community-based model with only a few short-term in-person intensives each year; he wouldn't have to leave us to move to Winnipeg!). Ross will begin with us on September 13th, with his first Sunday here at Cloverdale on September 17th, our fall “Connection Sunday” (a.k.a. ‘rally day’).
Cloverdale United Church recognizes that we worship, live, work, and play in traditional and unceded territories of Coast Salish peoples: primarily the Katzie, the Kwantlen, the Semiahmoo, the Snokomish, the Stolo, the Tsawwassen, and the Wsanec. We give thanks to and for them; we offer our respect to those ancestors who may be interred in this land. We seek to live with respect in this piece of Creation; we seek peace and justice among all who have called this land home.
