Fall is a busy time for the Cloverdale UCW. We are making apple pies for sale, preparing for our Handcraft Market, creating Thanksgiving wreaths, and gathering in quieter moments for fellowship and prayer. There are participation opportunities for all. Come and join us!
Apple Pie Making Bee: The apple pie project begins on Monday, October 3 at 10:00 am, and will continue through the month of October. Volunteers are still needed for every one of the ten sessions. You’re not sure what it is all about? Stop in and check it out. Contact Lorie Presunka lpresunka@gmail.com or Laurel Zulke douglaurel@gmail.com
Community Handcraft Market: We are excited about the Community Handcraft Market coming up on November 19. The organizing committee—which includes Sharon McBain, Joann Brown, Christine Connal, Heather Becker, Laurie Wilson, Kim Forbes, Margaret Rose, and Rev. Matt (tech consultant)—has been busy all summer inviting vendors, making plans, and designing promotional materials. In the next few weeks, you will be hearing from us about the many ways you can be involved. It takes the whole congregation to organize a successful event.
Thanksgiving Wreaths: The October Friendship gathering is on Wednesday, October 5 at 10:00 am in the Upper Hall. This is a change from our usual second Wednesday of the month so we can once again make Thanksgiving wreaths before Thanksgiving. Bring fall leaves, twigs, berries, pinecones … and come have fun! Cash donations for the Cloverdale Foodbank are appreciated.
Friendship Gift Bags: The Friendship Group will once again be assembling toiletry gift bags for the residents of the crisis shelter at the Bill Reid Centre in Cloverdale. We invite all of you to contribute items such as soap, washcloths, shampoo, gloves, hats, granola bars, gift cards … One of our local dentists has generously supplied toothpaste, toothbrushes, and dental floss. There is a basket in the Narthex to place your donations.
Fraser UCW Gathering and AGM: This event includes the United Churches in the Fraser Valley and is taking place at Penninsula United Church on Tuesday, October 4, 9:30 am – 2:30 pm. Bring a bag lunch; coffee/tea and dessert are supplied. The program includes music, worship, a book display, and a report on the UCW 60th Anniversary conference. Contact Lori Brown jalormi@shaw.ca.
